Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley is supporting the fight against colorectal cancer by joining the national campaign One Million Strong.  Charles has filmed a video for the organization Fight Colorectal Cancer, encouraging anyone who has been affected by the disease to join the One Million Strong movement.  The video will make its premiere at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City’s Times Square on March 1st.

Charles chose to join One Million Strong because his father-in-law was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years ago and he says, “it’s really been hard on the family, so it hit really close to home.”  He also says, “Any time my band, Lady Antebellum, can use our platform to encourage more people to get screened, that’s a positive thing.”  For more information about the campaign visit fightcolorectalcancer.com.

Country Stars Catch Olympic Fever

Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum

Like so many Americans, several country stars have Olympic fever.  Lady Antebellum has shared many videos of the ping pong table they set up backstage at each of their concerts, even hosting tournaments from time to time, which would explain Charles Kelley’s tweet earlier this week that said, “Women’s Olympic volleyball so far is my favorite things I’ve seen from the games. That is until I found out when ping pong is gonna air.”

After the US women’s gymnastics team captured the first all-around gold medal for Team USA since 1996, Taylor Swift reached out to team captain Aly Raisman in a tweet that said, “CONGRATS @Aly_Raisman and all of the fab five on your incredible win!!!!” Aly responded, “thank you so much Taylor! You just made my night! You are my favorite singer!!!!”  Taylor also tweeted teen swimming sensation Missy Franklin after she won gold in the 100-meter backstroke and said, “I was so happy to see you win, girl :)”

Last night Darius Rucker sent a tweet out to Michael Phelps after he won the gold medal in the men’s 200-meter individual medley, beating out teammate Ryan Lochte, who was considered the favorite in the race.  Darius tweeted, “Wow. What a night for the #USA and congrats to @MichaelPhelps I’m a huge fan.”

Josh and Charles Kelley

Congratulations to Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum, who is an uncle again.  US Weekly broke the news yesterday that his brother, fellow country singer, Josh Kelley and his wife Katherine Heigl have adopted a second daughter.  They adopted their first daughter, Naleigh, from South Korea back in 2009.  Katherine told US Weekly, “My sister Meg is Korean, and my parents adopted her three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea.”  She and Josh have also talked about having biological children but they wanted to adopt first.

Miranda Lambert Name Drops on Her New CD

Miranda Lambert has released some details about her new album, Four the Record, which will be out on November 1st.  There are several familiar names associated with the project, including her husband, Blake Shelton, who duets with her on a song called “Better in the Long Run.”  The song was actually written by her Pistol Annies band mate Ashley Monroe and Charles Kelley from Lady Antebellum, along with songwriter Gordie Sampson.  Josh Kelley sings background on her current single, “Baggage Claim,” and her friend Brandi Carlisle, who sang at her wedding wrote and sings background vocals on a song called “Same Old You.”  Miranda admits “Baggage Claim” is pretty groovy and a great song, but she wants people to know it doesn’t represent the whole album.  She says, there are “all kinds of music on the record.”  Fans will have a choice of the 14-song standard edition of Four the Record, or a Limited Deluxe Edition which will include a bonus song and a DVD of Miranda sharing stories behind each song.
