Hunter Hayes celebrated the success of his two-week #1 song “Wanted” with a party yesterday in Nashville.  Before the party Hunter explained why he wrote “Wanted” for a specific girl that he had feelings for but then never gave her the song.  “It was one of those things,” he said, “I knew what I wanted to say and I wanted to say it and I was very dead set on saying exactly what I said.  The problem was, I said it and I chickened out, pretty much is what it comes down to.”  Essentially Hunter explains that the song was just way too much to play for the girl who inspired it.  “It touched on everything I wanted to say so strongly that I said, ‘If I actually play this for this girl, she is gonna run.’  As she should,” he laughs, “hearing all these things said to her right off the bat.”  Hunter says eventually he shared the song with the girl after he was able to admit that it was for her, but by that time he was no longer trying to win her affection.  But he says the way it worked out, “I think that’s probably for the better.  I think that we both are kind of thankful that it’s how it worked out.  But it’s all good.  We joke about it.”
