Lionel Richie to Release Tuskegee March 27th

It’s been announced that Lionel Richie’s star-packed duets CD, Tuskegee, will be in stores on March 27th.  The CD includes Lionel singing some of his biggest hits with Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Little Big Town, Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.  Many of those artists will join Lionel for the taping of the CBS special, Lionel Richie and Friends “In concert” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the night after the ACM Awards (April 2), to be aired at a later date.

Lionel chose to call the CD Tuskegee because he says, “Tuskegee is where it all began, the place where I felt that everything was available and possible.  It’s where I learned about life and love and the power of music, and the place I built a musical foundation that knows no genres or boundaries.  Doing this album was coming back to the beginning, back to basics, back to home.  The part of it I love the most is that the journey has been one of discovering myself. By the time I got back to Nashville, I clearly knew that the roots of my songwriting, my storytelling, were from the South.”

Shania Twain to Testify by Video in Stalker Trial

When the Ottawa doctor who is accused of stalking Shania Twain goes to trial next month she will not be in the courtroom.  A judge has granted Shania permission to testify through video link despite the defenses argument that having her appear by video goes against the principles of justice.  Dr. John Palumbo is accused of breaching a court order that prohibited him from visiting Toronto, except for Ontario College of Physicians business, and to stay at least 500 meters away from the singer, when he showed up at this year’s Juno Awards where Shania was being honored as a Hall of Fame inductee.  Since 2008 Dr. Palumbo has been sending Shania love letters and flowers, and according to the Toronto Sun, he was spotted outside her grandmother’s cottage in 2009 and allegedly attended her grandmother’s funeral in Timmins last summer.  The trial is scheduled for September 29, 30 and Oct. 18 at Old City Hall court.

Taste of Country recently conducted a poll among its 557,000 Facebook followers to find out who the most fashionable woman in country music is, and the winner was Carrie Underwood by a landslide.  In a distant second place was Miranda Lambert, followed by Taylor Swift.  Others who showed up with more than a few votes in the poll included Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Lauren Alaina.  While guys were also nominated in the poll, they didn’t even come close to the votes garnered by Carrie Underwood.

Billy Currington Wants to Shoot Video in Spain

Billy Currington recently filmed the video for his latest song, “Love Done Gone,” down in New Orleans.  If he had the chance to do anything he wanted for a video Billy told the Country Vibe, “I want to go to Spain and shoot a video. Somewhere like that, something really different.  I went to London that one time with Shania (to film “Party for Two”), after doing that, I was like “this is the cool way to go”.”  While it’s on his wish list he says, “It’s probably really expensive to do it, but one day when the time is right, I want to do something way over there. “  The video for “Love Done Gone” will be released to video channels in the coming weeks.

Shania Twain Stalker Gets Day in Court

The man who was arrested at this year’s Juno Awards for violating a restraining order Shania Twain has out against him will have his day in court on September 29th.  Dr. John Palumbo had been charged with stalking Shania, but was ultimately released because Shania did not show up in court on the day of his original trial.  Shania still had a restraining order against him because he repeatedly sent her flowers and letters and even showed up at her home in Canada, plus, he has been hospitalized for psychiatric issues in the past.  According to the Toronto Sun, the judge in the case will decide next month whether or not Shania will testify in person or by video at the trial.
