Carrie Underwood Reveals Girlie Reasons for So Many Tour Outfits

Carrie Underwood: The Blown Away Tour exhibit opened last week at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and it features a lot of costumes and accessories.  Carrie says the tour required so many outfits for a few reasons.  “For me, I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t want to wear the same thing to work every day.  I like to change things up too.  And also, being a lady, sometimes I feel … hmmm … smaller than others,” she laughs, “so it’s important to be able to have things for every occasion and make myself feel comfortable and be at my best every single night.”

Carrie explains that she had all of her costumes and accessories cataloged in a book and she would go through it before each show and put sticky tabs next to the things that she wanted to wear for the night.  But her choices weren’t all about keeping herself happy.  She also wanted to keep in mind her fans who were seeing the tour multiple times.  “Hopefully every time they came to a show they got to see something different,” she says, “different accessories, a different hair thing, different shoes, completely different outfit.  So that was important for me too, just for people to be able to come back and notice different things.”

Carrie Underwood: The Blown Away Tour exhibit will be open through November 10, 2013 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.  You can learn more at CountryMusicHallOfFame.org.

Darius Rucker Getting Street Named After Him in His Hometown

Darius Rucker

Darius Rucker

Darius Rucker is getting a street named after him in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina.  To honor everything he has done and continues to do for the community, Mayor Keith Summey lobbied the city’s planning commission to rename the entry way into the North Charleston Coliseum from Coliseum Drive to Darius Rucker Boulevard, and the measure passed with a unanimous vote on Monday night.  When Darius heard the news he said, “That’s crazy!  What a year this year has been… I’m honored… I’m truly over the moon about the whole thing.”  But he also said, “I do what I do because I love Charleston.  I’m not doing it to try to get any honors.  It’s just because I love this city so much and it’s just amazing to be recognized like that.”

The official renaming ceremony will take place later this summer.

Trace Adkins and Colbie Caillat to Perform New Song Together for the First Time

Colbie Caillat and Trace Adkins

Colbie Caillat and Trace Adkins

Trace Adkins will be on The Tonight Show tonight to perform his new single, “Watch the World End” with Colbie Caillat  What makes this performance so unique is that it will be the first time Tace and Colbie have ever performed the song together.  Even when they recorded it, it was in separate studios on opposite sides of the country, at different times.  Before he films his performance, Trace will host a live chat on CMT’s Facebook page at 3pm ET/2pm CT.

“Watch the World End” is on Trace’s new album, Love Will … and was written by Brett Eldredge.  Brett says, “If you had one person, one place … the person you would run to if you were down to your last hours, if the world was about to end, who would you go to?  Who would you run to?  I just thought that was a real, true meaning of love.”

Brad Paisley Likes to “Fatten the Pig” with Field Trips Before He Pranks Them

Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley is known for pranking his tour mates, but he’s also known for taking them on fun group field trips to help build camaraderie among everyone on the road.  So far on the Beat This Summer Tour Brad says, “We did go karts this week, which was a blast.  And we saw Star Trek and Iron Man in theaters. I’m thinking about Man of Steel this weekend.  I want to see that, so maybe you’ll see us at one of those or something.”  Brad joked that he likes to “fatten the pig first” before unleashing the pranks on his tour mates, which is why there have been more field trips than pranks so far.  In all seriousness he says, “This is a once in a lifetime chance to tour and I only get these acts out one time, and I like to try to make it really hard for another headliner to give ‘em a better time.”

The Beat This Summer Tour with Brad, Chris Young, Lee Brice and The Henningsens will continue through the end of October, so there is still plenty of time for pranks.

Gloriana Excited to Make First Album as a Trio

Gloriana

Gloriana

Gloriana has begun working on their next album, and although the last two singles they’ve released off their Thousand Miles Left Behind album have been as a trio, Rachel Reinert clarifies, “What’s funny is that this past album, we made it when there was four of us.”  Cheyenne Kimball departed the group almost a year ago, about the same time that they released their latest album. “So this will actually be our first official time to have the creative process and put together an album as a trio,” explains Rachel. “So we’re really looking forward to that and we’re just in the beginning, beginning stages of writing and just kind of gathering ideas and what we want it to sound like.  But it’s exciting.  It’s a little bit different for us, but in a great way.

Tom Gossin predicts, “I think it’s gonna have a fun, kind of back to a fun party [vibe].  The way we live life, the three of us, kind of like the way we cruise through life, really embracing that into an album as a theme, of just having a really good time and loving life.”

Besides working on the group’s new album, Tom is also preparing for his upcoming wedding, but he admits he’s leaving the wedding planning to his fiancée, Jamie Moffett.  “I live by a simple philosophy,” says Tom, “happy soon-to-be wife, happy soon-to-be life.  So she does the wedding planning.  Our wedding planner is the girl that worked with Blake and Miranda, so I trust it’s all gonna be good.”  When asked for his opinion or input Tom says he tells Jamie, “Honey, whatever you want.  Oh, totally, just as long as you’re happy, I’m good.”

Zac Brown Band Builds Human Catapult for New Video

Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown has an entire compound down in Atlanta that manufactures everything from the band’s tour merchandise to their tour busses, mobile kitchens, leather goods, food products and more.  So when he got the idea to feature a human catapult in the video for “Jump Right In” he says, “I called the guys in my machine shop … we’ve got C & C metal equipment there.  We make knives and other stuff like human catapults.  I called them and told them that I needed a human catapult and two weeks later, there it was.”

Zac remembers years ago when he owned his first restaurant, he would joke and tell people to come back that weekend and they would be launching people into the lake with a human catapult.  He laughs and says, “It was kind of a joke.  Then it came true and there was a moment when I was standing out there launching people into the water thinking, ‘I’ve made it!’”

Luke Bryan and Rapper T-Pain Have Sort of Recorded a Song Together

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan has a new album coming out in August and there are rumors that he recorded a song with rapper T-Pain, which some people have wondered if it would show up on the new album.  Luke tried to dance around the subject a little saying, “It’s half true and kinda true.”  But finally he said, “I’ll just tell you.”  Luke explained that his good songwriting friend Dallas Davidson wrote a song which he sent to Luke to demo.  Dallas is also good friends with rapper T-Pain and they often collaborate on music.  After Luke recorded the song T-Pain demoed a version of it.  Now Luke says, “I’ve had talks with T-Pain.  We’re just trying to figure out what to do.  I know a lot of people are out there doing the rap collaboration and that’s kind of making me … I’m just trying to create what to do to put T-Pain in part of this thing.  I mean his part that he does on the demo is just crazy good.  So we’re just trying to figure it out.  But that’s how that happened.”

Luke’s yet-to-be-titled album, featuring his latest single, “Crash My Party,” will be out August 13th.

Pistol Annies Cancel All Concerts in June

Pistol Annies

The Pistol Annies, have cancelled all of their upcoming appearances and shows for the month of June.  No explanation has been given, but hopefully fans won’t be too disappointed, as Miranda Lambert has stepped up and will cover all of their scheduled shows with her solo show instead.  The statement announcing the cancellations simply cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason.  It also said the trio is expected to continue touring and making music in the future.

Billy relied heavily on Nashville’s talented songwriting community for his new album, recording all songs written by other people.  We Are Tonight features a cover of Jack Johnson’s “Banana Pancakes” and a guest appearance by Willie Nelson on a song called “It’s Hard To Be A Hippie.”

Brad Paisley Considers No Biscuits On Tour a Big Failure

Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley has partnered with Cracker Barrel on his Beat This Summer Tour, which has been great, except for one thing.  We asked Brad if he got free biscuits as part of the deal and he said, “I haven’t seen a biscuit yet on this tour.  In that sense, in every way this has been a successful partnership, but in that way it’s a big failure.  We need to get that going.”

In all seriousness, Brad says, “I love Cracker Barrel… Basically from the time I moved to Tennessee they fed me and this is the first time they’ve ever done anything on this scale and they are the greatest people.  They are really indicative of country music.  They’re just one of those things that fit like a glove.”

Even if Brad doesn’t get the free biscuits worked out on the road, apparently Grand Ole Opry members get to eat for free at any Cracker Barrel location.  In fact, he laughs and says, “I’ve been with Bill Anderson before when he’s reminded the waitress of that.”

Besides sponsoring Brad’s tour, Cracker Barrel also carries an exclusive expanded version of his Wheelhouse CD, which is available in their stores or online at CrackerBarrel.com.

Bad Weather Creates False Jake Owen/Carrie Underwood Drama on Final Night of CMA Music Festival

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood

Yesterday afternoon Jake Owen tweeted, “I’m fired up to play LP Field tonight for the final night of #CMAFest. I can assure y’all that the boys and I are comin’ out rockin’.”  Unfortunately a big storm that rolled through Nashville last night caused the LP Field show to be cut short and forced the CMA to improvise a little.  Once they knew the lightning-filled storm was coming, which would force them to evacuate anyone in the stadium to the concourses, they started asking artists to only play two songs so that everyone would have a chance to play for their fans.  As the storm raced closer and the window of opportunity to get everyone on stage got smaller, Jake Owen was asked to play only one song, which understandably upset him, but really upset his fans, who booed as he walked off stage.  Rumors began to spread on Twitter that Jake only got to play one song because Carrie Underwood, who was the headliner last night, refused to shorten her set.   She actually responded to one random tweeter who accused her of pulling a diva moment and said, “@EmilyHerring Yeah…that didn’t happen…I just did what they told me to do. I love @jakeowen too…”  Then she added, “Why do people just make up stuff sometimes? Does it make them feel better? Mama taught me that’s called a lie…I also call it a bummer…”

Fortunately, Jake also saw the rumors that were spreading on Twitter, accusing Carrie of being responsible for him only playing one song ,and he tweeted, “Sorry to all my fans that paid good money for #CMAFEST2013 tix. Due to the weather coming in, I was told to only play one song. I you guys … On a side note… It wasn’t @carrieunderwood fault I only played one song. She rocks. ❤ Her. We all did what we were supposed to.”

Although it wouldn’t be the same, several Nashville radio stations offered Jake the chance to finish his set either live on their airwaves the next day, or to set up a free local show to try to give him a chance to finish rockin’ as his  initial tweet promised.  No word on whether he plans to take anyone up on their offer.

Craig Morgan Aids Emergency Responders on Scene of Three Tractor Trailer Accident

Craig Morgan on the scene of the accident

Craig Morgan helped aid emergency responders who were dealing with a crash involving three tractor trailers on I-40 in Humphreys County Tennessee yesterday.  Craig is a trained EMT and he happened to be on his bus on the way back from a show in Texas when he realized what was happening about a quarter of a mile ahead of them on the interstate.  So he and two of his crew members jumped off the bus and ran to the scene of the accident where they helped extinguish a small fire and care for the drivers involved.  Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis told Nashville’s News Channel 5, “He responded and did exactly what he had been taught to do and was a huge help.  This is just another example of the kind of guy he is, he loves doing things for others.”

Fortunately, all of the drivers involved in the accident only sustained minor injuries.

Dierks Bentley and his wife Cassidy are expecting their third child this fall and yesterday at his fan club party, the Last Call Ball 9, he revealed they are expecting their first boy.  They have two daughters, Evie who is four and Jordan who is two, and Dierks says a friend told him, “Having three kids is like having a thousand and I’m kind of starting to see how that’s probably gonna be true cause it’s already pretty crazy with two.”  Dierks says one big change he’s noticed with fatherhood already is, “My short term memory is not really that existent anymore.  It seems like yesterday I was single and on the road and playing bars, and now I’m here and I’ve got a wife and two kids and third one on the way, so life’s crazy like that.  It changes everything but luckily I’m still here doing what I do and appreciate it more now than ever and it’s just crazy.  But we’re pretty excited.”

In addition to welcoming his new baby boy into the world this fall, Dierks will also be releasing his new album, Riser, in the fall.

Surprise Collaborations and Performances Abound at 2013 CMA Music Festival

One of the big elements at this year’s CMA Music Festival was the element of surprise in the form of collaborations and performances.  Taylor Swift drove the crowd crazy Thursday night when she brought Tim McGraw and Keith Urban out to perform “Highway Don’t Care” with her.  That same night Zac Brown Band had the legendary Kenny Rogers join them for “The Gambler,” and Kid Rock jumped on stage with Zac and the guys to sing Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band.”

Other surprise collaborations included Sheryl Crow joining Little Big Town to sing “Soak Up the Sun” and then her own new country single, “Easy.”  Interestingly, Lenny Kravitz was given his own timeslot and he invited Jason Aldean on stage as his special guest to reenact their CMT Music Awards performance of “American Woman” and to sing “Are You Gonna Go My Way.”  Jason hung around later that night to also be a surprise guest during Kelly Clarkson’s set for their duet, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”  Kelly also came up with a cool twist on a surprise collaboration when she invited Trisha Yearwood to sing “Ain’t Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up,” which of course is Trisha’s husband, Garth Brooks’ song.

Over on the Riverfront Stage, Dierks Bentley joined The Grascals on stage during their set to perform the theme song from “American Pickers,” which he recorded with them.  And Hunter Hayes shocked fans when he showed up for a performance on the smaller stage, since he was scheduled to play the big stage at LP Field later that night.  Hunter explained that he wanted to do the performance because most artists graduate from the Riverfront to LP Field as part of their CMA Music Festival growth process, but he went right from one of the small satellite stages to LP Field and he says, “I never really got to play the Riverfront Stage and there’s always something fun about that in my mind.  I’ve always watched it from a distance and so this was kind of my chance to do like a surprise show, which we love doing when we can, when we have a chance.  And so the quickest answer we came up with was let’s see if we can do a Riverfront performance too, same day as the LP Field show.  And we’ll do a different set list, we’ll do something a little different and it was fun.  It was wicked.”

You’ll likely be able to see many of these surprise guests and performances on August 12th when Little Big Town hosts CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock on ABC.

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott Gets Belly Rubs and Gifts During CMA Music Festival

Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum was experiencing this year’s CMA Music Festival seven months pregnant, and she and Charles laughed that the most common reaction from fans was to want to rub her stomach.  Charles laughed and said it was like people were saying, “Hey, I just met you and I’m rubbing your belly.”  But in all seriousness, Hillary said, “They’ve been so kind, honestly, just giving gifts, whether they’re little cute stuffed animals for our daughter, onesies, little socks or little keepsakes.  It’s been really, really sweet.”  Charles joked that he and Dave were so jealous she was getting more gifts than them at the festival that one of them was going to have to get pregnant to divert some of the attention off of her.

Lady Antebellum has three more dates before they stop touring in order for Hillary to take time off to have her little girl at the end of July.  Hillary said she’s holding up in the heat of the summer, and actually the weather for CMA Music Festival was quite mild compared to previous years.  Backstage at LP Field she said, “When I looked at the forecast for tonight, I was like, ‘This is a direct gift from God to me.  It’s gonna be 68 degrees,’ so I really appreciate that.  But I’m feeling great…  I’m standing up in heels right now, which I feel like is an accomplishment, so I’ll take it.”

Blake Shelton Says The Voice Feels Too Good to Be True Right Now

The competition on NBC’s The Voice is down to the final five contestants, two of which – The Swon Brothers and Danielle Bradbery – are members of Team Blake.  They’re both country artists and it’s the closest Blake has ever come to winning the competition with a country artist, which has always been a dream of his.  “To know that I’ve still got two left and we’re nearing the finale,” says Blake, “You can see the brass ring right there.  It feels like it’s too good to be true at this point.”

If you watched last week, the majority of the contestants left in the competition performed country songs, which pleases Blake to no end.  “It’s kind of turned into the country version of The Voice,” he said.  “I read a few articles saying that it’s kind of like the whole format has shifted to country and my answer to that is, ‘You’re damn right!’”
